For the first time in almost 80 years, a children’s play in Russian will be staged on the stage of the Kazakh Academic Drama Theater named after Makhambet – the bilingual production “Kingdom of Wisdom” will open a new page in its history.
The play is based on the legend “Baigyz”, which tells about a king who has a rare gift for understanding the language of birds. His love for birds becomes the cause of an internal conflict in the palace: the queen, suffering from loneliness, begins to be jealous of the ruler for his unusual hobby. Succumbing to the crow’s persuasion, she demands to build a snow-white palace made of bird bones for her.
The king faces a difficult moral choice – to give in to the whim of his wife or to remain true to his beliefs and protect those who cannot stand up for themselves. Through this storyline, the play raises important themes of compassion, responsibility and true values, forming a careful attitude towards the world around the young audience.
The performance was based on the script by Asylbek Auyezkhanuly. The director was Beibut Kusanbayev, a cultural figure invited from Almaty. The artwork is by Aigerim Zholdasova. The premiere will take place on April 23. The performance will be staged in Kazakh at 11 a.m. and in Russian at 2 p.m.
